EMMANUEL MACRON’S EU minister refused to reveal France’s shock Brexit bill demands in an awkward interview. Nathalie Loiseau, French Minister of European Affairs, failed to answer numerous times the figure France is insisting for the UK to quit the European Union. Put to her whether the Brexit bill should be “as low as 20 billion” euros or as “high as 80 billion” euros or more, Ms Loiseau would not give an answer. Asked how much the UK should pay to leave the EU, she replied it was up to EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier. Speaking on France 24, she said: “I’m not here to give a number because first we have to agree between the 27 represented by Michel Barnier, our negotiator, and the United Kingdom, on the method. “How do we calculate, what do we include in what is owed by the United Kingdom. “Unfortunately, as far as I understand, current negotiation, which took place yesterday and today, did not bring us to the point where there is sufficient progress and detailed answers from the United Kingdom on this very important question. “We have one negotiator and this is Michel Barnier and we have one method, to give him the floor. “He’s the one who discusses it and I’m not here to comment on France thinking it’s this or that.” Mr Barnier has admitted talks between the UK and EU could dramatically collapse. The Frenchman said it was "possible" that the UK could walk away without paying a penny of the EU's proposed 'Brexit bill'. The divorce settlement, estimated to be as high as £88bn (€100bn) is a major source of tension between the two sides. Last week, he gave UK officials a two-week deadline to clarify how much Britain is willing to pay before it leaves the union.
