Our Ocean Heritage: Charles W. Morgan and Hokulea

Our planet has one ocean and it connects us all no matter where we live, no matter our culture; we all share a common heritage. ‘Our Ocean Heritage’ is a short film that highlights two historical voyages that celebrate our life bond to the ocean. A whaling vessel, Charles W. Morgan who use to hunt whales over a hundred years ago has been fully restored and is now sailing to spread ocean conservation messages, including impacts whales still face today. And the Hōkūle’a, a Polynesian voyaging canoe, that has been on an around the world voyage to promote the importance of working together to grow a global movement toward a more sustainable future. In this film, three ocean luminaries, Jean-Michel Cousteau, Dr. Sylvia Earle and Nainoa Thompson greet the Hōkūle’a as it arrives in American Samoa and share their thoughts about the importance of these voyages and the urgent need to protect our ocean home. Winner of the 2015 Best EcoDox at the San Pedro International Film Festival. Directed by Jim Knowlton Written by Letise LaFeir Music by MAKANA USA, 2014 RT: 6:21mins
